The Wheat Industry Museum is one of just two museums in the world focusing on wheat cultivation and production. The museum, housed in the old Dutch Reformed Mission Church, Moorreesburg, is in the heart of the Swartland. The Swartland is known as the breadbasket of South Africa. Around Moorreesburg, there are about 400 wheat farms supplying approximately 140,000 tons of wheat annually to the local cooperative.
In addition to the history of the wheat industry, tractors, implements, harvesters, threshers and cutting machines are on display at the museum.
A special treat is to make your own stokbrood with butter and syrup! This activity is available by appointment only and a minimal fee is asked.
