Hout Bay Museum Staff

Visit and learn about the history of Hout Bay at the museum. Experience the outdoors through the programme of the Outdoors Educational Centre. The Centre offers school curriculum aligned programmes on fishing, rockpools, the river, the forest and history of the Khoekhoen and San in the area. All these programmes include a tour or site visit such as a visit to a cold storage facility, the beach, catching bugs at the river, a walk through the forest and a cave that once housed a San group.

Denis Goldberg House of Hope

The Denis Goldberg House of Hope (DGHOH) is an arts and culture education centre that provides access to art, dance, music, circus, drama, computer skills, and other activities for children and youth from the different communities within Hout Bay and surrounds. Young people register for fee-free regular activities that take place every afternoon of the school week as well as on Saturday mornings.

The DGHOH serves as a memorial to, and realisation of the dream of, anti-apartheid icon Denis Goldberg, who was sentenced to life imprisonment with Nelson Mandela and six others in 1964. The centre houses an exhibition on Denis’s life as well as the colourful art collection which he built up over the years.

The building, designed by award-winning architect Jo Noero, is located on the site of the Hout Bay Museum.
